After graduation, Ron worked as a corporate controller and a corporate
chief financial officer. It was in these days that Ron by chance found
one of the early Overstreet comic book price guides. He studied the
book, fascinated by the memories it recalled and the prices listed for
some of the comic books. Slowly he began to buy comic books rekindling
those old childhood memories. As he accumulated more and more of these
books, he began to set-up at conventions selling previously read items
to acquire new books.
He became "Redbeard's Book Den" so his customers would both recognize
his ads and be able to locate him at conventions. As sales grew, he left
the accounting and finance field to become a full time collectibles
dealer.
He was in the right place at the right time when the collection of
comics now known as the "Mile High" collection was discovered. He bought
loads of books from the dealer who found the collection. As reported on
CNN and major newspapers nationwide, Ron sold the "Mile High" copy of
Superman#1 for a whopping $180,000 in January 1997. Ron has appeared on
TV and radio shows, and he has been written up numerous times in
magazines and newspapers discussing collectibles. Ron is a longtime
senior advisor to the Overstreet Comic Book Guide, and he is renowned
for his fair grading and easy going style.
He met his wife Jean after moving to Lake Tahoe in 1987. Their mutual
love of fine dining and wines led to them becoming wine merchants.
They are also scuba diving enthusiasts and travel the world to
experience new locales. Ron's latest rage is underwater photography.
